Every time someone would mention Katzinger's deli in the German Village district, I would say "I haven't been there," and they would respond, "What!!!" Fed up with not being part of a supposedly amazing experience, I went there with some co-workers today. The atmosphere was really neat and authentic- you walk in to a marketplace-esque restaurant crowded with cheeses, meats, oil, honey, bread, and anything you think you could buy at a deli.
The menu- gigantic. Not just in the amount of items, but also it took up a huge amount of wall space. Any sandwich you've ever heard of, and many more you've never heard of, are on the menu here. Wanting to try what they were known for, I got a reuben. Oh also, free pickles. Large pickles. The sandwich is one of the best reuben's I've had, but the price was pretty high. Also, it's not worth getting the largest size sandwich- their was not much of a difference looking at the size down. Anyway- here are some shots from my experience:
